In the game's opening cutscene we are introduced to the curious young student,
Wukong, and his brilliant inventor neighbor, Dr. Tang. As he often does, Wukong
has chosen to drop by the doctor's lab completely unannounced. However, the
doctor isn't upset by his visit. On the contrary; Dr. Tang takes this opportunity
to strike up an energetic if not tedious conversation about his newest grand
invention: the world's first time machine!
While the doctor continues rambling on about his achievement, Wukong is
overcome with curiousity and decides to sneak away to give the exciting
device a closer look. Climbing into the time machine, he investigates its
cutting-edge equipment with bewildered awe. Not knowing when to stop, the
boy begins to fiddle with the strange, unfamiliar equipment. Before he knows
it, the previously dormant device rumbles into action. Then, with a flash it
is gone - with Wukong along for the ride!
With cold reality hitting him straightaway, Dr. Tang is frozen in place with
a chill running down his spine. Worry, regret and personal responcibility flood
his heart and head, and he begins to break down. In this moment of anguish,
all he can think to do is yell out in a panic.
But, what of Wukong? Young and inexperienced in the ways of time travel, he
has been sent to the very point in time and space which had been pre-programmed
for the doctor's test voyage: the Village of the Sun during China's Tang Dynasty.
The time machine crashes to the ground and Wukong is thrown from it, landing
with such a force as to temporarily knock him unconscious. As Wukong rests, the
time machine is scooped up by Dr. Tang's hastily invented Automated Robotic System
Extractor (or 'ARSE' for short) only to be intercepted by a local monster before
it can be returned to the future. Some of the villagers appear on the scene to
investigate the commotion, but are quickly scared away by Wukong's unfamiliar
clothing, deeming it the garb of a monster.
When Wukong awakens, he's quite confused and even a bit worried by his present
surroundings. Luckily a friendly monk rushes to his aid to answer questions, provide
guidance and even supply the misplaced youth with some era-appropriate clothes
and a bit of pocket money! As Wukong quickly discovers, the time machine worked
as described and that he is, in fact, not on the set of a movie about the 'ancient times'.
With these realizations in mind, he sets off into the village to inquire about
the time machine.
Wandering past a few clueless villagers, Wukong comes upon the village elder who
informs him that an object resembling the time machine had recently been spotted.
It seems that ancient China was brimming with thieving monsters and demons, and
that the time machine had caught their attention!
Wukong needs your help! Order Legend of Wukong, and
get him going on his epic quest across ancient China and India in search of
the ever-elusive time machine! Recruit new friends to help him face the hordes
of malicious demons! Acquire and equip powerful weapons and armor, and learn deadly
magic! Solve puzzles along the way! With your help, the history of China is about
to be rewritten by a thirteen year old boy.
